The Mazda MX-5's 2.0-liter engine produces 250 horsepower, and BBR holds the key

The Mazda MX-5 is one of those vehicles that has never required more power to better it, owing to its lightweight roadster formula and great tune. At least, that's what Mazda believes, despite the fact that the company has never been very diligent in pushing its iconic Miata past the 200 horsepower mark. However, for those who believe that nothing more than more power for this 1,000 kg roadster is feasible, BBR has been demonstrating for some time that it is more than doable. For quite some time, this British trainer has been showing us his work on several models of the MX-5, including a Mazda MX-5 NC (the one prior to the current one) with 300 horsepower.

They have not yet gone that far with the current generation, the Mazda MX-5 ND, but it appears that they are coming closer as their latest innovation on the current top of the Miata family, the Mazda MX-5 ND 2.0, exhibits 160 horsepower. Mazda MX-5 ND 2.0 BBR Supercharged, which is capable of reaching up to 250 horsepower, is now more magnificent and powerful than ever.

Climbing on two different levels

To do this, BBR has released two supercharger packs including their Rotrex supercharger, which has been tuned to extract even more power from the existing 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G engines. As a result, BBR provides two distinct degrees of power. The so-called Stage 1 delivers around 225 horsepower and 271 Nm of maximum torque available between 3,750 and 5,750 rpm, allowing this MX-5 to accelerate from 0 to 100 in 5.3 seconds (before in 7.3). Stage 2 includes a 2.5-inch high-flow stainless steel exhaust that enables even more power, as well as an optional Forge Motorsport intercooler to increase cooling even during high-performance settings. All of this adds up to the astonishing 250 horsepower and 300 Nm that propels this MX-5 from 0 to 100 km/h in only 5.1 seconds.

Warranty is included

Both preparations are currently available from BBR for MX-5 NDs with 2.0 Skyactiv-G engines from 2015 to 2019. Stage 1 costs around 4,795 pounds (5,511 euros), while Stage 2 costs approximately 6,495 pounds (7,466 euros at the current exchange rate). In any event, they will be supported with a one-year warranty for their clients' peace of mind.
