This could be the best friend for those who love to run, as it doesn't really have many uses. Robots have long been present in factories helping humans with dangerous or repetitive tasks. However, we are getting closer to the day when they surround us in other settings. When we arrive at a hotel, a hospital, or while we go for a run. The latter is basically the function of Unitree Go1, a robot dog that follows its owner everywhere and can carry his water bottle.
This model is very similar to Spot, the Boston Dynamics robot that we have already told you about on other occasions and that is widely used in various industries, from patient care to army reconnaissance missions. But this time we are going to talk about a Chinese version that was developed by the Unitree Robotics company.
First, it should be noted that the company has been working on the creation of robots for years, so do not think that they are improvised on the subject. One example of this is precisely the Unitree Go1, a four-legged robot that is not only capable of running and jumping but also has a much lower price compared to other available options. To give you an idea, while the Boston Dynamics Spot robot costs $ 74,500, that is, almost a million and a half pesos, the Chinese robotic dog has a price of only 2,700 pesos, about 53,000 pesos.
But why would you want a robot dog? According to the presentation video, basically to follow you wherever you go. In the clip you can see how the dog follows a person who is running, even when the user tries to get away, the faithful robot continues to follow him. It is also capable of detecting obstacles and even sits when its owner indicates it by putting his hand on it.
Another useful ability of the Unitree Go1 is that it has the ability to carry a single bottle of water on its back as it has straps that are able to hold it, you can also put a small basket to help with shopping. So it really seems like just a robot companion to date.
More uses yet to be discovered
It should be noted that it would seem a somewhat useless investment to buy one of these robot dogs, but the truth is that use cases have yet to be discovered. As with Spot, soon some individuals or businesses might find that the four-legged machine is perfect for some tasks they need.
Although for now the intention, in the words of the company, is rather to make quadruped robots as affordable and popular as smartphones and drones.
If you are interested in considering the idea of buying a Unitree Go1 your best friend, we share that, according to the website of the manufacturing company, you can find it in three versions: Go1 Air with a price of 2,700 dollars; the Go1 with a cost of 3,500 dollars, the equivalent of 68,839 pesos; and the Go1 Edu that costs 8,500 dollars, about 167 thousand pesos.
Each of the models weighs around 12 kilos. The price difference is due to the fact that the more expensive ones come with more processors and sensor power. While all of them have automatic people-tracking technology and obstacle avoidance, only the highest price can reach 17 kilometers per hour. However, nothing is mentioned about the battery life, although, considering that in the case of Spot it is only 90 minutes (one of the reasons that have prevented its implementation in more industries), the reality is that it is very difficult to think that this robotic dog can be our companion throughout the day.
