The super acceleration ability is a major advantage of electric vehicles. For example, the acceleration time of the Tesla Model S Plaid is only 2.1 seconds to 100 kilometers, which exceeds the 1500-horsepower model which is many times more expensive. Bugatti Chiron, but the Model S Plaid isn't the fastest-accelerating electric car in the world. A team of students at the University of Stuttgart in Germany has set a new world record for electric vehicle acceleration using a car they designed and built, Autocar reports.
Zero to 60 mph takes just 1.461 seconds, compared with the previous record of 1.513 seconds, set by the Swiss team in 2016. The 1.461-second acceleration is 0.5 seconds faster than the Pininfarina Battista, 0.6 seconds faster than the Ariel Hipercar, 0.9 seconds faster than the Tesla Model S Plaid, and a full second faster than the Bugatti Chiron's 2.4 seconds. To be able to set this record, one would have guessed that the car would be very light, and it is, weighing in at just under 320 pounds. Surprisingly, the car isn't very powerful, the dual motors only produce about 240 horsepower, and the car comes with four-wheel drive and a custom battery pack.
The peak acceleration of the car is reported to be 2g, which is about the same acceleration that astronauts feel when they re-enter the Earth's atmosphere.
