China: Guangdong to Build National Intelligent Computing Power Hub

Guangdong Province today announced plans to build a national intelligent computing power hub, aiming to rank first in the country in terms of intelligent computing scale by 2025. The plan is outlined in the “Implementation Opinions of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government on Accelerating the Construction of a Leading Place for General Artificial Intelligence Industry Innovation”.


The plan outlines a number of ambitious goals, including:

  • By 2025, the scale of intelligent computing power in Guangdong will rank first in the country and lead the world.

  • The general artificial intelligence technology innovation system in Guangdong will be relatively complete.

  • High-level artificial intelligence application scenarios in Guangdong will be further expanded.

  • The scale of core industries in Guangdong will exceed 300 billion yuan (US$43 billion).

  • The number of enterprises in Guangdong will exceed 2,000.

The plan also calls for the construction of a number of key infrastructure projects, including:

  • A national intelligent computing power network hub node.

  • A data special zone in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

  • A national demonstration highland for scenario applications.

The Guangdong government believes that the plan will help to make the province a leader in the development of artificial intelligence. The plan is part of the province’s broader effort to develop a digital economy.
