Apple iPhone and Apple Watch users in Colorado, USA can now add their electronic ID and driver's license to the wallet app as a proof of identity in lieu of a physical card at TSA checkpoints at select airports use.
The Colorado Department of Revenue made the announcement recently, saying that wallet-based IDs or licenses can be presented at select TSA checkpoints at the Denver airport. Digital ID is available to users with a current valid Colorado-issued driver's license or ID .
The ATO said the wallet ID was designed to be a companion to an actual driver's licence or ID, not a replacement. Colorado users must continue to carry their physical driver's license or ID with them, and the ID in the wallet can only be used at the airport.
Apple has added support in iOS 15 or newer to allow users in participating U.S. states to add their driver’s license and state ID to the wallet app. So far, Arizona, Maryland, and Colorado support the feature.
Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma and Utah will receive support in the future.
