The future direction of the East German automotive industry was largely predicted by this car: the IFA F-9. It was created in 1953. Most of the less than 40,000 specimens produced in 1949-56 were created in Eisenach, the rest in Cvikov. Even then, it was powered by an in-line two-stroke three-cylinder with a cylinder capacity of 900 cm3 and an output of 30 hp.
